Margaret's Speech ... on speech night!

Thank you to Margaret for sharing her Speech Night speech with the group.

In 2013 the royal baby, Prince George was born and Candy Crush became an obsession across the world.

2014 was the scary year, with the rise of both the ISIS and the ebola epidemic.

In 2015, the muzz became famous. And something horrific happened, Zayn Malik left One direction.

In 2016, new dance moves like the Running Man, the Dab, the NaeNae and the JuJu became popular on the dance floor. It was the year America made a surprising yet terrible decision and it was the year Georgia Love found true love on the Bachelorette.

So much has happened in the “real world” in the past four years, and let me tell you this, so much has happened here at Macrob since us year 12’s first stepped foot into this school. It has been a difficult yet rewarding journey that I know I will truly miss. It has been tough at times with the pressures of study, leadership or sport, but every memory that I have made here is one that will stay with me forever.

Yesterday, I was at this awards ceremony, and it was there that I realised the true meaning of support. We girls only do what we can do and achieve what we achieve because of the people who surround us. It is the Palladians, our parents, family, teachers and friends who guide us through every step of our way along this crazy adventure. It is because of them that we have the support, encouragement and belief to accomplish our goals. So I’d just like to say a personal thank you to every single person who has had a contribution in my life and has played a part in making me who I am today. We all have to remember that it is a big and scary world but we all need each other in order to succeed. So Macrobbians, although it is a very competitive environment at our school, we must remember to always stick together no matter what. We are all going through very similar things so it’s so important that we help each other out. And parents, I know you do and always will believe in your child, but make sure she knows that because without your support we would be nowhere.

We have something special here at Macrob, we have this strong covalent bond between each and everyone of us. I think it is because we all have this inner drive, a drive to strive for our goals and ambitions. Macrobbians seem to have this resilient mentality that helps us get on with life even when we are almost at the brink of failure. And I admire this in all you girls, and it’s so great to see it in other ex-Macrobbians, other Palladians too.

We all survive, fail and succeed together and I think that is what makes us unique. I love the fact that we can wear different coloured jumpers, be in different year levels and different houses yet we are still united as one.

Here at Macrob I’ve been fortunate to experience some amazing things, especially as your 2016 SRC President. I have witnessed such enthusiasm and passion from so many girls who have a goal in mind that they’re willing to do anything to achieve. I have heard some awesome stories, seen some great leadership and been through a hell of a lot of struggle and stress. It’s great to see how student voice is not just seen in the Student Representative Council but is evident everywhere within Sporting teams to student-led clubs to the Social Service Team. This year, the SRC and the Student Action Team has been working tirelessly alongside teachers and students together with the school’s Annual Implementation Plan. You may not have seen any physical change, but I assure you there has been heaps of collaboration with the future in mind for the Links Leader program, tutoring, the Year 10 Curriculum and the exciting new project being launched next year for the year 9’s titles “Mission to Mars”. This active collaboration has reinforced to me and I’m sure many others in the team, how vital it is to work as one, together as a community, no matter what the goal is.

SO tonight I’ve been talking a lot about togetherness and unity. And that’s because it has played such an essential role in my journey here at Macrob. I’ve learnt that yes you need to take your own initiative and you have to follow your own path, BUT you need others there alongside you to achieve this. You need their guidance, their support and their presence.

So remember, that I am awesome, you are awesome, but most importantly, we are awesome!
