This is a true year 11 MacRob story.
About this time of the year, some years ago, I had a meeting with a year 11 student, her mother, father and brother in one of the Consultation Rooms near the Hall. Yes, the whole family! For about 30 minutes, there were tears and sorrow from the whole family. The reason? The student did not receive a General Excellence Award that year. She had received that award in year 9 and 10 and in her previous school in years 7 and 8. The family thought she was a failure and that she had brought disgrace upon them. Statistically, she had ended up as #14 that year ... that was not good enough for the family! Anyway, the last time I spoke to this student, a few years ago, she had just completed first year medicine at Monash, her first preference, and she was happy and content.
Failure?
