On 16th April, I was delighted to attend the Piano masterclass led by Aleksander Szram who is a very inspiring composer.
He is the winner of the Vlado Perlemuter Award (2004) and played in more than thirty countries across the globe. He has recorded two CDs which will be released on 2015, one with Jill Kemp of 21 Century repertoire. This CD includes the work of many talented composers. The other CD is a selection of solo piano and chamber works by Douglas Finch.
He was awarded the Wilner scholarship to study at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of music and dance. Aleksander Szram has been awarded the TCM Trust Silver medal, Haynes scholarship, and the Joan Greenfield Fellowship to fund his study for a MMus degree, which was passed with distinction.
It was an honour to learn from such an experienced and passionate musician. The masterclass was divided into two sessions which were during period 1 and period 2. A lot of interested students attended the class to see Aleksander, and we were all very amused by his piano techniques. He gave us advice about hand positions, posture, dynamics, etc.
Students thought it was very helpful in their learning and we are looking forward to his tour of Australia this winter.
